Other CONFERENCES PROPHE held a panel "(Re)imagining policy models and their influence on intersectoral (public-private) distinctiveness" at ASHE (November 2019). PROPHE also presented a special panel on the for-profit/nonprofit distinction at CIES (April 2019). Director Levy gave the First Senator Edgardo J. Angara Keynote Lecture at a national education conference in Manila, addressing "Philippine Private Higher Education in Regional and Global Perspective" (December 3, 2019).  

PROPHEts' updates Mark Yee (Philippines) started his PhD at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Education, as a Jardine scholar. Doctoral assistant Edson Eduardo Navarro Meza (Mexico) presented his book Las Políticas de Educación Superior en México y la Oferta Privada en Zonas No Metropolitanas at the 33th Guadalajara International Book Fair (December 4, 2019). Dante Salto has become Assistant Professor in higher education at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

World Bank's visit Dr. Sachiko Kataoka, senior economist at the World Bank, visited PROPHE (December 12, 2017).See more

New entry in National Databases Turkey was added to the National Database.

Translation and Foreword A Chinese translation 《国家与高等教育》中文版前言 (Beijing Normal University Press, 2017) is now available of Director Levy’s much-cited Higher Education and the State in Latin America: Private Challenges to Public Dominance, University of Chicago, 1986.

New thesis on Mexico posted Higher education policies in Mexico and the private supply in non-metropolitan areas (English title of Spanish original, an MS thesis at FLACSO) by Edson Eduardo Navarro Meza.

New PROPHE Affiliate PROPHE welcomes Professor Aurélian Casta as Affiliate. Casta is writing a PROPHE working paper on French for-profits.

New PROPHE Doctoral Assistant Quang Chau is interested in Vietnamese and global PHE, including both for-profit and nonprofit sectors.

Berkeley workshop PROPHE Doctoral Assistant Chau presented a paper on how leading Vietnamese private universities fight the stigma of ‘second-tier’ status at Berkeley’s Center for Korean Studies.See more

Collaborating Scholar Fengqiao Yan spent the 2014-2015 academic year on sabbatical at Stanford's Center for Asia and Pacific Research.

National Data Cases have been added for Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

Dissertations Mostly written is Mary Beth Collier’s on the choice of private non-elite colleges in New York State. In late 2014, Paulina Berrios defended her dissertation on part-time professors in Chile (which includes private-public comparisons).See more

Doctoral Research Associate Dante Salto has won an Organization of American States' (OAS) doctoral scholarship for work that will include analysis of public and private dynamics in Argentine graduate education. See Dante Salto's activities here.
