Mario Alarcón (Chile), Ph.D. Assistant Professor at the Centre for Comparative Education Policy, Faculty of Education, Diego Portales University, Chile. Director of the Master in Management of Higher Education Institutions, Diego Portales University. He is Professor in the Doctorate in Higher Education (Diego Portales University/ Leiden University). He has held senior management positions in Chilean universities, in the academic field as Academic Vice-Rector and General Academic Director at the University of San Sebastián, and in the administrative field as General Director of Planning and Development at the Federico Santa Maria Technical University. He has also worked as a consultant, advising boards and rectors of Chilean and Latin American universities on governance and institutional management.
He has also advised the Chilean Ministry of Education on the evaluation of institutional strengthening projects in universities. He is a member of the UNESCO Chair in Comparative Higher Education Systems and Policies, directed by Dr José Joaquín Brunner. His research interests focus on higher education governance, university management and the academic profession. Ph.D. in Higher Education from Leiden University, The Netherlands.
