Wondwosen Tamrat is associate professor and President of St. Mary’s University (SMU) in Ethiopia. He coordinates the Sub-Cluster for Private Higher Education in Africa under the Higher Education Cluster of the implementation initiative known as Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) 2016-25. Tamrat has 3 Masters degrees: one in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Addis Ababa University (1990-Outstanding), another MA in English Language Teaching from the University of Warwick in England (1992-Distinction), and a third in Tertiary Education Management from the University of Melbourne (2016). Tamrat also holds a Graduate Certificate in Quality Assurance in Higher Education from the University of Melbourne in Australia (2012). He has taught at Kotebe Metropolitan University, Addis Ababa University and St Mary’s University in Ethiopia for more than two decades. He served as a board member of the Ethiopian Higher Education Relevance and Quality Assurance Agency (HERQA) for two consecutive terms and is now Vice President of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions in Ethiopia. Tamrat is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the International Journal of African Higher Education (IJHEA) and has published and presented papers on Ethiopian higher education at both national and international venues. He has authored two books on private higher education and quality assurance.
